when breakfast becomes fish food

Can we just take a step back and realize how fast the summer is flying by? We've already been out here for five weeks! Next week we will be reaching our halfway point, that seems oh so crazy. Our California Adventure just keeps getting better each week. This week Los Altos was hit by a heat wave and we both almost boiled to death. Brennan had a fun week at work with conferences and outings while I was left to fry at my own job. Over the weekend we snuck to Monterey again and had another splendid Saturday!

First, let's talk about Brennan's amazing week. He had a three-day conference at his work, with lots of meetings and breakout sessions and then fun party stuff. His work gave him breakfast every day and then in the evening he went out to dinner with his co-workers and then they also did finance team bonding activities. One night for their dinner they went to a restaurant/bar and Brennan had his first experience of watching everyone around him drink alcohol and practiced being the pure one. They went bowling after dinner and had even more drinks. Brennan came home and said he has never been offered so many drinks in his life. Another afternoon they went to San Francisco and did a segway tour. That's the coolest bonding activity I've ever heard of. It was fun for Brennan to spend time out of the office and to get to know his co-workers better.

My camp has been good this week, mostly just really really hot. All the outdoor instructors got water spray bottles this week and I spend half the time spraying kids with water so they don't get too hot. It got to about 97 degrees on Thursday so we spent a lot of time playing in the shade. I am still learning lots of new games and having fun playing them. We played Jedi dodgeball this week, which is just like doctor dodgeball. Basically, you throw balls at the other team but when you get hit you just sit down and the Jedi on your team has to tag you in order for you to rejoin the game. It's a great game, especially because no one ever really gets out. We also amped it up by playing start wars music the whole time. The kids love that game and it never gets old. It's also way fun playing with first and second graders because I can throw the ball better than them, in fact, one player called me the team "powerhouse."  I am also getting way better at face painting and have started to do cool princess designs on people's faces, like giving the girls blue eyeshadow with swirls. It's great.

Friday night we went to our ward potluck dinner. The ward members are so nice. We don't know many families but they were quick to introduce themselves and we talked to people the whole time. Our ward is awesome, and the members are so humble even though half of them work for large businesses.

Saturday we had an interesting adventure in Monterey. First off I would just like to say that I love that city. I've decided that it's my spirit city if that can be a thing. I love the pier and the beaches and the ocean. I could have spent all day there. My aunt invited us on a whale watching cruise so we got to the pier bright and early to board the boat. The tour itself was great. We saw lots of humpback whales. It is incredible to see the whales up close and to see them spout and then come up and then dive back down and do a cool tail flip. So beautiful. I could watch whales all day. I enjoyed every minute of the boat ride, Brennan, on the other hand, couldn't have been more eager to get back to land. Brennan told me the day before that he gets seasick. I couldn't really comprehend what this meant because I don't get seasick and haven't' really been with people who do. Well, as soon as the boat stopped and we were all admiring the whales Brennan went to the stern of the boat and let his breakfast fly out into the ocean. Well, at least he felt better after that. My aunt brought some ginger snaps that he ate that hopefully made him feel a little better.

We were planning on going kayaking afterward but with Brennan getting sick he said he had zero desire to be on the ocean again. So we decided to walk along the pier and look at the shops. We went to a candy shop and bought some fudge and we passed through a few souvenir shops, we found an awesome tie-dye Monterey shirt with a hippie van on it that I needed to own, so we made that happen. There was also a car festival going on (rock and reel to be exact), so we checked out the old cars.

Afte we finished sightseeing in Monterey we drove through the town of Caramel, which is basically a tourist town with all the buildings being fairy tale themed. It was cool to see. On our way home we stopped by Point Pinos Light House. It is the oldest operating lighthouse on the west coast and still has its original lens. The lighthouse keeper's area is like a little museum of what it was like to live there. In some of the rooms cute old ladies sat and talked to you about the lighthouse history, I could totally see my mom or grandma doing this. It is an adorable little lighthouse and of course, it's surrounded by a golf course!

As you can see every week is an adventure and we just can't stop having fun! Also, we can't stop getting sunburnt either. It seems that no matter how much sunscreen we put on, someone always gets too much sun!
