The economy may not be regressing, but our baby is

Image
Apparently, there's this thing called "The four month sleep regression" that babies go through when they're four months. Yeah, this was not in the (non-existent) handbook. This happened just as I thought her sleep routine was perfect. She was sleeping for about 8 hours, everyone was happy, now no one is. This led to many hours of Googling. Ok side note, how in the world did anyone know how to parent a child without Google? I think I ask Google a parenting question ten times a day. Hey Google, what does it mean if my baby's poop is green, all they drink is milk? Hey Google, how do I use a bulb syringe to get snot from my baby's nose? I even asked Alexa to play womb noises one night. So how my parents and grandparents managed to raise children without instant answers is beyond me.  Ok back on track, so I researched and read many articles on how to help our little Kollins return to her previous state of sleeping. There were so many suggestions and methods. I t

Forgetting about New Year's Resolutions and other New Year thoughts

Image
I feel that this last week I've seen so many posts on social media about what goals people are setting as New Year's resolutions, and what they want to do to change their lives for the better. Two things crossed my mind when I scrolled through these posts. Number one, why does it take a new year for people to make goals? I guess I understand new beginnings and starting over, but if there is something that you want to change in your life, why do we have to wait for a new year or a new month? Why can't we just make the change daily? I'm sure there are some people who do try to set new goals throughout the year, I just wish it was more of a thing. We don't need to wait to change our habits, we just need the motivation and grit to make the changes daily, weekly or monthly. My second thought was, "wow I have been so preoccupied about having a baby that I haven't even thought of any goals or new years resolutions that I want to make." (really in my mind t

Deep in Muir Woods

Image
Last weekend was my birthday and also National Public Lands Day, which translates to free day at National Parks. Well, I jumped at this opportunity to explore Muir Woods because usually, it is $10 a person for a day pass and Brennan and I are frugal people (sometimes). I planned the day out very well because there were many things I wanted to see in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area after we were done exploring Muir Woods. The evening before we left I made a power point Presentation and presented it to Brennan so he would have a clear picture of everything we were going to do. He's a business major and sometimes you just have to speak his language, through excel sheets and power points.  It took a lot of planning because we had to get parking reservations and work out all the timings right. We left early in the morning to get there by 8:00am. For Muir Woods, you either have to pay to have parking reservations or pay to ride the shuttle to the park entrance. It's a smal

Burnt grilled cheese sandwiches and other wife fails

We moved to California about three weeks ago and I keep telling myself I need to write in my blog again, as you can see from the last entry it was more than a year ago. Sometimes I just need encouragement to write, and good thing I have a friend that kind of nudged me to keep up my blog, so here it goes. As the title suggests, since moving out to California I have had multiple wife fails that after they happened are really funny, so why not share them.  #1 The grilled cheese sandwich              We have a fresh basil plant so I was really excited to make tomato basil bisque and then some grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it, plus it was within the first week of moving here and we hadn't really gotten a lot of food yet. Well I put the pan on the stove, sliced the cheese, put the bread on the pan with the cheese. I was trying to wait for the cheese to melt a little bit, but then suddenly it smelled really bad and I grabbed the spatula and looked at the underside of the b
